The Pegasus Lounge is favorite Tampa dive to catch rising metal acts grind out a set, share a beer or three with friends and enjoy a night of Pornaoke (karaoke while adult content plays), rap acts, horror movies — and stand-up comedy.
Now the bar is upping the ante by bringing a nationally touring comedian in for a set on Friday night.
Steve Hofstetter has been on The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson as well as CNN, VH1 and ABC. But he's also written three books and released several comedy CDs (one of which, The Dark Side Of The Room, can be downloaded for free on his website). He also has more than 14 million views on Youtube, witty, unapologetic stage presence and a willingness to tackle subjects sensitive people would probably avoid.
If the atmosphere isn't a traditional one for comedy, don't expect Hofstetter to be fazed by it. He seems comfortable pretty much anywhere, and talking to pretty much anyone. He even takes questions from the audience sometimes, and his off-the-cuff commentary is just as sharp as his prepared material. So a word to the wise: Don't heckle. It won't end well for you. Just enjoy the show, and a rare chance to see a comedian at a place usually known for its music.
Showtime is Friday at 7 p.m. 10008 N. 30th St., Tampa. Info: pegasusniteclub.com
