Enjoy a spritz of new theater smell as two companies follow a summer tradition of featuring locally written one-act plays. Clearwater has narrowed down a selection of 10 plays from 138 one act plays for its 5th Annual One Act Plays Festival, and asks audiences to choose the winner. The show runs two weekend., Fri.-Sun., through July 20. 

Also in North Pinellas: Enjoy some juicy outdoor fun and celebrate an oh-so-Florida fun at the Dunedin Orange Festival.

DIY music and lit lovers, your must-go-to event this weekend is the Tampa Zine Fest at an off-the-main-drag Ybor venue called the Underground. Bands  MeteorEYES and Kill All Humans provide the soundtrack, and hands-on activities and workshops. 

Local book lovers and women who dig some offbeat chick lit should check out the authors writing under the pen name Noelle August of the new book Boomerang. One author is local writer Lorin Oberweger. More info about the events featuring authors Oberweger and Veronica Rossi here.

Improv lovers out there, you might already know it's a big weekend for the often comedic and unpredictable, unscripted performance genre. The Sarasota Improv Festival is in full swing, and Austin-based troupe Available Cupholders is performing and leading a workshop at American Stage tomorrow.

Craft beer lovers and fans of Tampa Theatre — and Hunter S. Thompson — will be brandishing cigarette holders and celebrating the best food and brew of Tampa at Beer and Loathing in Las Vegas. Disclaimer: The theater and vendors are not responsible for errant bats and drunken prehistoric reptiles.

The scene will converge en masse at a solo show featuring the works of local prodigal daughter Ryann Slauson, If You're Not Getting Better, You're Getting Worse.

The big event this Sunday is the hotly anticipated World Cup final at 3 p.m. There are several venues to catch the action between "Arrr-hentina" and Deutschland. The Germania Hall, a banquet/dance hall on the property of Pinellas Park's German-American Society, is all decked out for FIFA viewing. If you're rooting for Germany, nowhere could be more ideal than this headquarters for oom-pa-pa fun.  

Renzo's Steakhouse at 3644 W. Kennedy Blvd., Tampa, is where my amigos and I will plan to be. The Argentinean restaurant has been a hub or World Cup games played by Brazil's South American rival, and the eatery a second location in North Tampa. Argentina is pretty much the underdog, but you gotta love their spirit. They unseated the winningest team of World Cup soccer on their home turf on their Independence Day

In St. Pete, the Tampa Bay Rowdies will host a VIP World Cup Party that begins as early as 1 p.m. at Rococo Steak in St. Petersburg. The event features a 10-foot-wide high-definition screen, The match will start at 3 p.m. In addition to spectating, you can check out soccer games on the lawn with Tampa Bay Rowdies players, and also get their autographs and photographs. An upscale buffet including prime rib will be available starting at 1 p.m. Your ticket to the watch party will include two drink tickets that will be good for beer or wine.
