OK, so first things first: What the hell is The Two Dicks, and why are they performing at Tampa Improv?
The Two Dicks is a web series about two '50s detectives and their (mis)adventures. This isn't goofy slapstick, though. They're jaded guys who spend more time bantering about nothing than actually detecting anything. The shorts tend to feature a thread of a plot and plenty of jump-cuts and improvised dialogue. From an interrogation that goes wrong to a missing person search that goes wrong (lots of stuff goes wrong with these guys), the episodes are quick, clever and usually get sidetracked by funny conversation.
Actually, the episodes are the funny conversation. That's why it works.
So why would they be at the Improv? Because the Two Dicks are really experienced stand-up comedians. Al Romas has entertained audiences for decades, and Al Ducharme has appeared on America's Got Talent and Last Comic Standing. They're two funny guys who collaborated on a project that ended up on Funny or Die and garnered over 100,000 views. Season two is already in the works, with plans for a variety of special guests and additional distribution.
But for now you can enjoy their stand-up comedy Wednesday, Jan. 20 (discount at link below).
