L.A. acting coach Benson Simmonds here to boost Tampa talent

Success in acting is about "the three C's of success: craft, confidence and contribution," says Los Angeles-based acting coach Benson Simmonds. The actor, comedian, author and instructor will be teaching scene study, audition technique classes and sharing his "Kick Butt" branding/marketing knowhow in Tampa today through June 19.

Simmonds has appeared on TV shows (Supernatural, Stargate SG1, Da Vinci's Inquest) and starred in numerous indie films including the award-winning short " target="_blank">Applaud or Die, which he also wrote and produced. He's studied under Ivana Chubbuck (who coached Halle Berry and Charlize Theron) and has used the techniques he learned from her and built on them to help actors master auditions. He calls his approach Soular Power — a technique that allows actors "to turn off and on the switch between the soul and ego." Simmonds says he is working on a book about using Soular Power to better oneself and craft.

Casting director Bobbi Hill will be at all classes, and Simmonds has invited local directors to see the actors work as well. Simmonds' Tampa instruction schedule is as follows:

Kick Butt Marketing/Branding Workshop: Fri., June 13, 10:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Two-day Scene Study class: Sun., June 15, noon-6 p.m.
Audition Technique class 1: Tues., June 17, 4-10 p.m.
Audition Technique class 1: Wed., June 18, 4-10 p.m.
Depending on availability of time and space, Simmonds may also have a second scene study class
Thurs., June 12, 4-10 p.m., and Mon., June 16, 4-10 p.m.

Fees per class are around $125 but vary according to class. Classes will take place at Talk Wad Studios, 5008 Linbaugh Ave, Suite 32-33. Call 310-407-9955 for more information.
