Sad: There's actual a field called "oil spill science."

Sadder still: We need such a field.

This Saturday, head to Weedon Island to hear Dr. Monica Wilson, who's from the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative, talk about the latest innovations in said science.  Why do you want to hear her talk about this? Because she's part of the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative. She "transfers" information between oil spill professionals (the scientists working to clean up the mess, not the idiots who spill oil) and "stakeholders."

Simply put — her job is to tell anyone who's livelihood depends on not having oil-covered beaches. (so, pretty much all of us)  what's happening with to protect our beaches, our Gulf and Florida's wildlife from the next spill (because there will be one; when is the only remaining question).

After she's done speaking, there will be a Q&A.
