Lightning release 2013-14 schedule

The Tampa Bay Lightning open on the road this season for the first 3 games. The first two are against Stanley Cup finalists the Boston Bruins and the Chicago Blackhawks. They play the Eastern Conference Champions, the Boston Bruins, on Thursday Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. at the TD Garden and the Chicago Blackhawks, the winners of last season’s Stanley Cup, on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 8 p.m. at the United Center.

The 2013-14 season home opener will be held on Thursday Oct. 10, against Florida Panthers at 7:30 p.m. at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. That begins a seven-game home standing against the previous four Stanley Cup winners — the Pittsburg Penguins Saturday, Oct. 12, the Los Angeles Kings Tuesday, Oct. 15, the Boston Bruins Oct. 19, and the Chicago Blackhawks Thursday, Oct. 24.

Wednesday, Nov. 27, the day before Thanksgiving, marks Vinnny Lecavalier’s first trip back to Tampa since he became a free agent and signed with the Philadelphia Flyers earlier this month.

Other home highlights this season include the Bolts playing the Detroit Red Wings twice — first on Thursday, Dec. 12, and again on Sat., Feb 8, and former coach John Tortorella skates in with Vancouver Monday, March 17.

The league will take a three week break in February to allow its players to participate in the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
