On the radar: a weekend of Kick Start My Art events

Art collective Kick Start My Art kicks major butt this weekend with two worthwhile shows in a row.

First, do you love bacon? How about Kevin Bacon?

Kick Start has sizzled up a new exhibition, Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, based on the theory that any celeb can be linked to Kevin Bacon by six or fewer connections.

The event at the Bricks of Ybor on Fri., Sept. 24, includes music by DJ Cub and drink and bacon specials.

Works by 18 artists connect famous personalities – such as Jersey Shore staple Snooki and Patrick Swayze – to the ubiquitous KB.

On Sat., Sept. 25, Kick Start My Art and the Children’s Cancer Center host a benefit art show at the center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It includes painted kite-shaped wood cutouts to be auctioned off.

Kids from the cancer center designed the tails.

There will be coffee, a dessert bar, and Panera Bread will be providing food.

All proceeds go to the Children’s Cancer Center.

The Bricks is at 1327 E Seventh Ave., Ybor City. Call 813-247-1785 or visit thebricksybor.com.

The Children Cancer Center is at 4901 W Cypress St., Tampa; 813-367-5437.
