On the Radar: Matt Braunger

Welcome to On the Radar, where we preview upcoming events to mark on your calendar.

Comedian Matt Braunger comes off  like that misfit, slacker cousin who crashes at your place for an undetermined amount of time. You know, the type: slightly imbalanced, might be wearing a ketchup-stained shirt and can’t hold down a job, but you can always count on Braunger to share a witty chestnut — like how nothing is cuter than kitten wearing an eye patch. Physique-wise, Braunger’s got the makings of a good comedian – large, pasty and fleshy like Jim Gaffigan or Brian Posehn. His timing and delivery aren’t a direct rip-off of any of the above; he’s got his own special thang going on, and his resume includes stints on MadTV and Upright Citizens Brigade, as well as appearances on all the requisite late-night talk shows.  Aug. 12-15, 8 p.m. Thurs., 8 and 10:30 p.m. Fri.; 7:30 and 10 p.m. Sat.; 7 p.m. Sun., The Tampa Improv, Tampa, $14-$18.
