Oscar Experience: Tampa is Sun., Feb. 24 at the Tampa Theatre

Plus: Don't miss this week's Studio 10 for a preview of Sunday's telecast.

This year’s highly competitive Oscar race is the most interesting one in years. Though Argo has long been rumored to be a lock for Best Picture, a recent groundswell of support for Silver Linings Playbook may ground Ben Affleck's spy thriller before it takes flight. Prepare yourself for Sunday's award show by watching Studio 10’s Oscar preview show (airing Thurs., Feb 21 at 10 a.m. on WTSP- Ch. 10 in Tampa), which will feature host Holley Sinn, yours truly, CL’s Julie Garisto, and local critic Joe Belcastro as they separate the frontrunners from the also-rans. Watch live Thursday morning or catch it on Friday on Studio 10's website, studio10.tv.

Then on Sunday, head over to the Tampa Theatre for the annual Oscar Experience: Tampa, an event sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences which benefits Tampa Theatre’s artistic and educational programs. Attendees will take limo rides, battle the photographers and spar with “Roan Jivers,” before heading inside to watch the telecast on the big screen. In addition, guests will receive the same Oscar program that Affleck, Spielberg, and the rest will be thumbing through at the big show in Hollywood while fighting the boredom during the endless TV broadcast. Feb. 24, 6:30 p.m. Tampa Theatre, 711 N. Franklin St., Tampa, 813-274-8981, tampatheatre.org. $30 for adults, $25 for Theatre members, $20 for students with a valid ID.
