Rays overpowered, fall 4-5 to Yankees

Realistically, any baseball fan worth his or her salt knows a one-run lead will not stand up against the New York Yankees. It may have worked for the Tampa Bay Rays in Friday’s 3-2 victory but with the bankroll this team has to buy power, it’s just a matter of time before they come back and get ya. It happened Saturday night, a game that saw the TB have some success in grinding out runs, just not enough to get it done against the best richest team in baseball.

Starting pitcher Matt Garza, fresh off his no-hit performance Monday night against the Detroit Tigers, allowed four runs on five hits with a walk. He struck out nine Yankees batters through seven innings of work. Garza, ever the pro, took the blame for this one, saying that he just didn’t get it done after being spotted a lead.

“I had these guys beat; I just gave it away,” Garza told the press after the game.
