Shake up your typical holiday tunes and (most likely) worn-out traditions when the Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe takes over the Sarasota Opera House to put on 'A Motown Christmas.' The family-friendly performance — created, adapted and directed by WBTT founder Nate Jacobs — incorporates a blend of traditional Christmas carols paired with soulful songs made famous by Motown icons like Marvin Gaye, the Supremes and The Jackson 5.

Motown Christmas is running December 4-6, 18-20. Tickets range from $15-$75. Sarasota Opera House, 61 Pineapple Ave., Sarasota. westcoastblacktheatre.org
