Slow Foods Tampa Bay presents: Food from the Ancestors

Know Your Spices, a game presented by Paul Bailey Savory Spices, will be a highlight. Prizes will be awarded to those with the “spiciest” knowledge.


Pot luck dinner begins at 6 p.m., and be sure to bring your own (reusable) utensils. Drinks may be purchased. Presentation and lecture begins at 7 p.m. A $5 donation is suggested but not required.

Food from the Ancestors, Part Two: Reclaiming Our Food Heritage, on Feb. 13, will focus on a local angle. The “global food crisis” will be discussed, as well as ways you can help provide some remedies. Willow LaMonte will share ideas about growing your own food. She will also discuss being environmentally cautious about the use of cardboard, paper and plastic in the garden.


Slow Foods Tampa Bay encourages the community to purchase and consume local food produced in a clean, humane manner. They are dedicated to local food producers and to educating Tampa Bay on where our food originates. Visit slowfoodstampabay.org for more information.

For Food from the Ancestors, Part One: Ancient Gardeners, Sacred Landscape and Ritual, indigenous herbs guru Willow LaMonte will transport you back in time to the practices of agricultural and horticultural communities. Her informative slide show and food altar will aid in this discussion of our ancient gardening ancestors, and will explore their relationships with nature, goddesses and sacred symbols.
