St. Patrick's Day 2010 events across Tampa Bay

The "place to be seen in your green" today is MacDinton's, which opens for an Irish brunch (hearty enough to soak up at least some of the bad decisions you'll be sure to make after your fifth round of Bushmill's), live music, Irish bagpipers and dancers, and whiskey specials all night long -- so thank your lucky charms for that. Weds., March 17, MacDinton's Irish Pub, 405 S. Howard Ave., Tampa, $10 cover after 5 p.m., $10 buffet before 5 p.m., macdintons.com.

Todd the Bagpiper (I thought that was a Scottish thing?) entertains patrons at Tank’s Tap Room, where they’re serving up steamy plates of corned beef with colcannon, Irish soda bread and specials on Smithwick’s, Guinness, Bushmill’s and Jameson’s. Now that’ll keep Irish guys smiling. 2 p.m. Weds., March 17, Tank’s Tap Room, 13150 N. Dale Mabry Hwy., Tampa, free, tankstaproom.com.

Despite the name change from Limey's to the more Rasta-fied Three Birds Tavern, they're still throwing St. Pete's officially un-official St. Paddy's Day partaaaay. It's an all-day affair that begins with green eggs and ham (and I have to wonder who is ripping off whom — Dr. Seuss or the Irish?). 98Rock's Big Rig comes out for the festivities, which also include Irish dancers, a Mr. and Mrs. Irish competition, and live music by Roctopus. 9 a.m.-close, 1492 Fourth St. N., St. Petersburg (727-895-2049).

The St. Paddy's Day Ghost Tour may not be your traditional pub crawl -- but it's sure to make your skin crawl. It meets at the Gulfport Casino and meanders through town with haunted history  tales of banshees, bogies and hobgoblins at every stop. 8 p.m. Weds., March 17, Gulfport Casino, 56th St. S. and Shore Blvd. S., Gulfport, $15, $8 ages 12 and younger, ghosttour.net.

It’s that time of year again: time for green beer, shamrocks and kissing strangers who claim to be Irish – and a whole host of venues gets in on the celebration.

The Dubliner's St. Patrick's Day Extravaganza isn't for the faint of heart. They're not just filling up the pub with Irish-inspired booze and food — the party overflows into the tented parking lot. Raise your glass of Guinness before noshing on traditional faves like fish and chips, shepherds pie and imported sausages.

But that's just the beginning: If you stick around for a second round of brews (or third, or fourth, or ... you get the point), the fest continues with live rock bands, a stage performance by the Stephen Scariff School of Irish Dance and a bagpipe troupe. A stuffed leprechaun toss, shepherd’s pie eating contest and Irish sheep racing round out the green day offerings. 11 a.m.-3 a.m. Weds., March 17, The Dubliner Irish Pub, 12836 Henderson Road, Tampa, $5 cover, $9.95 lunch, thedublineririshpub.com.
