A show this Friday night will turn comedy into cash for a local domestic violence charity.
The stand-up comedy show at Kilos Kava & Tea Bar at 660 2nd St. S. in Safety Harbor will benefit Community Action Stops Abuse (CASA). CASA provides shelter, support, a 24-hour hotline and other resources for victims of domestic violence and their families. It's a showcase, which means you'll see a number of up-and-coming comedians, as well as professional performers. The evening's headliner is Aniria, a local actress and comedian (and previous Best of the Bay winner) who performs at comedy clubs throughout Florida. Other comedians include Ricky Hicken, Matt Carter and event organizer Shellie Harris.
The show itself is free, but that doesn't mean you should be a freeloader. There will be a raffle and they'll accept donations at the door. All proceeds go directly to CASA, so it's a good opportunity to have a few laughs and help an organization that works hard to help those in need. And since it's local, the money benefits people in the community. That's a better way to spend your Friday than arguing about the Buccaneers' draft picks or who's going to die on Game of Thrones.
Spoiler alert: It's all of them. All your favorite characters are going to die. So go ahead and laugh on Friday before you cry on on Sunday.
