Kyle Ruse (a previous Best of the Bay winner) is used to telling jokes at comedy clubs, theaters, restaurants, bars and pretty much anywhere you can fit a microphone and a stand. Now, for the first time, he's telling jokes on CD. Ruse's first stand-up recording, St. Pete Bootleg, will mostly be available for online purchase. But he's also got some physical discs available at a release party at Vortex Bar and Game Room in St. Petersburg on Friday night. The event is free and open to the public.
Ruse's rude, brash and likable style comes through loud and clear on the recording, which was recorded at Snappers Grill & Comedy Club in Palm Harbor last year. The content is strictly for adults, and Ruse is known in the Tampa Bay area for pushing the comedy envelope.
How far does he push it? The CD's back cover is a photo of a vagina cake. That Ruse had commissioned. For a birthday party. His mother's birthday party. That probably tells you all you need to know.
In addition to CDs and other merchandise, there will be stand-up (of course) featuring a number of local comedians. That lineup will include Ruse, who will be offending sensibilities will material not found on his album. No word on whether crude desserts will make an appearance, though. But vagina cake or not, it should be a fun time.
Kyle Ruse album release. Fri. Aug. 30 8:30 p.m. No cover. The Vortex Bar and Game Room, St. Petersburg. INFO.
