Artists, families and grown-up recreants gathered in downtown Tampa Saturday to show us that we don't have to hold our breaths waiting on empty-building-hoarding landlords to revitalize a district.

Pop-ups do do the trick, and Franklin Street was abuzz with activity last weekend as a Tampa Bay Design Week event project/social installation of sorts provided a temporary place for play and mingling on a nearly vacant city street.

"We wanted to make the installation quick and easy. it is also about repetition and system … then the disintegration of those systems into something more organic," Sanchez said.

The inaugural Pop-Up Block Party was captured in a video produced by ES Creative, a video production company in downtown Tampa.
