Tampa Bay has a new pro sports team, and it needs your help. Today at a press conference in Ybor City, Tampa Bay's new Super League women's soccer team asked fans to chime in about the team's name, color and crest.

The submission request, a press release says, is meant "To engage the community and foster a sense of ownership." Tampa Mayor Jane Castor—along with mascots from the Lightning, Buccaneers, Rowdies and Rays—helped with the announcement today at Hotel Haya and added that the naming process lets locals "leave their indelible mark" on the team.

A rep for Darryl Shaw, a Tampa developer who's one of three partners bringing the team to Tampa, has to provide details on who'll cull through submissions and make the final call, but we'll update this post as soon as we know.

Name ideas for Tampa's new pro women's soccer team can be submitted starting now through 11:59 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2023.

If your idea is selected, you get to kick-off the inaugural season with recognition at the home opening game, while also receiving a soccer ball signed by the team and an assortment of club merchandise.

Shaw, has already expressed interest in building a 5,000-seat stadium for the still unnamed team, but did say that the squad would have to play in a temporary home until then. It's still unclear how many games the team will play, but it is taking deposits for season tickets; $24 saves your seat.

Super League matches will align with the international women’s soccer calendar and is one of five leagues run by USL where the Rowdies play in the USL Championship.
