Powerstories Theatre is sharing its second annual Voices of Truth Theatre Festival with Tampa Bay next weekend.

Coming back after its inaugural run last year, The Voices of Truth festiva kicks off on March 15 and showcases a series of theatrical performances and entertainment offered via both live in theater and virtually. The event will feature eight local and national playwrights joining audiences from around the world to answer questions and talk about their original productions.
Powerstories— located at 2105 W Kennedy Blvd. in Tampa—is a nonprofit theater company specializing in telling true stories that may otherwise go unheard. Last year’s Voices of Truth festival was met with success, marking it from then on as a regular part of the theater’s season.

For this year’s festival, attendees have 48 hours prior to the live interview with each playwright and two hours after to enjoy each production On-Demand. For the live theater productions, guests will have 48 hours after to view the recorded performance in the theater.

The festival kicks off March 15 with “‘The Merchant of Venice’” by William Shakespeare (or at least our best approximation)” by Atlanta-based playwright D.A. Mindell. March 16 will see New Jersey-based Edgar Chisholm’s “WithOut Love,” a tale of a young girl’s journey to realizing self love through others.

The following two nights will act as “Nights of shorts,” showcasing on March 17 is Elaine DiFalco Daugherty’s one-woman show “Watermelon in Wartime” and Carolyn Gage’s “Starpattern,” a story of two women who survived the 1966 mass shooting at the University of Texas at Austin. March 18’s shorts will be Cynthia Dettelbach’s “History Lessons,” visiting themes of fight racism and institutional injustice and Lissa Brennan’s “Love’s Bright Wings,” following a patron and sex worker that find unexpected fulfillment.

Festival tickets for Voices of Truth are offered individually for $15 per show. Those interested can find a complete schedule and more information about tickets via powerstories.com.
