The Jets are the worst, but the Bucs have had the worst luck, too

New York should be no match for Tampa Bay, but we’ll see.

The Bucs are on the road today and in the northeast to take on former Tom Brady AFC East rivals the New York Jets, led by their rookie QB Zach Wilson.

While Wilson’s rookie season can be described as inconsistent, the Jets’ season cannot be characterized in that manner.

They’ve been bad and nothing else. New York is 4-11 and its four wins have been the kind of random occurrences that only happen to awful teams.

If the Bucs somehow manage to lose this game, it could be a sign that even escaping the first round of the playoffs might be too much to handle for Tampa Bay.

Plus, this is a big game for seeding purposes, as the Bucs are attempting to at least keep themselves in the hunt for a first-round bye, and while the Bucs are devastated by injuries at this point, it’s not likely that things will be getting much better. Godwin’s gone. Fournette and David are a question mark, and now Shaq Barrett joins that group after suffering a season-ending knee injury this past week.

Jason Pierre-Paul, the other half of the Bucs dynamic pass rushing duo, is also out today, with his status for future games up in the air.

The Jets, however, are one of the worst teams in the NFL for a reason. New York’s defense gives up the most yards per game in the league; it’s offense is the NFL’s bottom 10 when it comes to gaining the most yards per game. The Jets are also just as bad at defending the run as they are at stopping the passing game, and they allow teams to score a whopping 29.9 points per game, worst in the league as well.

So if you’ve got Ronald Jones or TB12 on your fantasy team, start ‘em for that championship game. They could each have a big day.

All of this to say, while it would take a pretty large meltdown, it could happen, and it could continue to happen. These are not the Bucs of last year, and they definitely didn’t dodge the injury bug in 2021.

I’m worried all the injuries are going to cost TB12 his 8th ring; we’ll see how it all plays out.
