This week we have a lion (Joe DeLion), a wolf (Lou Angelwolf) and a wrestler (Mick Foley) gracing comedy stages. There are impressions, singing, some magic and plenty of jokes. Here are your options this week:
Pablo Francisco at Tampa Improv. Francisco brings an animated, energetic style and plenty of voices to the stage. The former MadTV star does plenty of impressions, ranging from Howard Stern to Jerry Springer to R2D2. Expect a night of diversity, all stemming from one guy. Showtimes are Thursday at 8 p.m., Friday at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. and Sunday at 7 p.m. 1600 E. Eighth Ave., Tampa. Info: improvtampa.com or 813-864-4000.
Teacher's Lounge at Tampa Improv. Mike Rivera was named "America's Funniest Teacher" by ABC's The View, and he's headlining a night of funny faculty. Expect rapid-fire comedy in the form of "teachable moments" that don't belong in any real classroom. Showtime is Wednesday at 8 p.m.
Josh Sneed at Side Splitters. Sneed is a young guy with a likable stage presence which he uses to discuss relationships and other topics with a casual air and plenty of witty wordplay. He'll get laughs from what he says, and maybe more from how he says it.
Showtimes are Friday at 8 p.m. and 10:15 p.m., Saturday at 6 p.m., 8 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. and Sunday at 7 p.m. 12938 N. Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa. Info: sidesplitterscomedy.com or 813-960-1197.
Mick Foley at Side Splitters. The former WWE superstar has proven to be as formidable with his bran as his brawn. The successful author and frequent cable news guest is in town for a one-night only comedy performance, but if you wanted tickets, hope you had fast moves. The show is already sold out. Showtime is Thursday at 8 p.m.
Ron Feingold at Snappers Grill & Comedy Club. Feingold offers a little bit of everything at his show: An impression or two, some singing and plenty of jokes all wrapped up in a comedy set that keeps audiences on their toes. He also brings some pretty unique merchandise you can buy after the show. You'll just have to hear it to believe it.
Showtimes are Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. 36657 U.S. Highway 19 N., Palm Harbor. Info: snappersgrill.com or 727-938-2027.
Cigar City Comedy at Snappers Grill & Comedy Club. Cigar City Comedy is a group of local comedians who perform all across the bay area. This week they're at Snappers for a mid-week show with a full line-up. Performers include Law Smith, Joe Riga, Matt Fernandez, J.B. Ball, Michael Murillo, Chris Matson, Mona Chiorizio, Quinton Greene, John J. Murray and David Weingarten. Yes, that's a lot of comedy. Showtime is Thursday at 8 p.m.
Joe DeLion at Coconuts Comedy Club (St. Pete Beach). DeLion is a mentalist, magician and comedian. You'll probably get some of each at his show, but comedy takes center stage. If you like variety in your shows, this is likely the one for you. Showtimes are Wednesday-Saturday at 9:30 p.m. 6200 Gulf Blvd. at the Beachcomber Resort, St. Pete Beach. Info: coconutscomedyclubs.com or 727-360-5653.
Lou Angelwolf at Two Palms Bar & Bistro. Angelwolf has been doing comedy for three decades. His hair may be whiter but he still has his casual, likable stage presence, plenty of wit and a smile for every premise.
Showtime is Saturday at 8:30 p.m. 2950 Gulf To Bay Blvd., Clearwater. Info: tampabaycomedy.com or 727-741-8014.
Tribute to Steve Baird at Two Palms Bar & Bistro. Baird, who passed away last week, was a local comedian with 30 years in the business and a reputation as a supportive elder statesman in the stand-up community. Friends, family and fans will gather Sunday night to share stories and laughs, as well as raise money for his final expenses.
Showtime is 8:30 p.m. with a reception at 7 p.m.
