The Laugh Tract: who's bringing the funny Oct. 3-6

Every weekend there's stand-up comedy happening across the Bay area, from theater shows featuring household names to comedy clubs offering nationally-touring headliners to the local bar or restaurant showcasing local talent. If you want to see comedians performing live, you have a lot of options. Here are the biggest shows happening Oct. 3-6.

Comedy Clubs

* Tampa Improv — Cristela Alonzo (pictured, right). Alonzo's comedy has been seen on Conan, Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson and Last Comic Standing, and she made her acting debut on FX's Sons of Anarchy. This Latin comedian is proud of her heritage, but her comedy covers a wide variety of topics that everyone can relate to and enjoy. Showtimes are Fri. at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. and Sunday at 7 p.m. The Tampa Improv is located at 1600 E. Eighth Ave. in Ybor City. For more information, visit or call 813-864-4000.

* Side Splitters — Tommy Johnagin. The 2010 runner-up in Last Comic Standing, Johnagin has been seen on Late Show With David Letterman and his own Comedy Central special. Johnagin looks pretty unassuming on stage, until he opens his mouth and you catch his wit and frank outlook on life, relationships and whatever else he happens to be thinking about.
Showtimes are Thursday at 8:30 p.m., Friday at 8 and 10:15 p.m., Saturday at 6, 8 and 10:15 p.m., and Sunday at 7 p.m. Side Splitters is located at 12938 N. Dale Mabry in Tampa. For more information, visit or call 813-960-1197.

* Snappers Grill & Comedy Club — Nat Baimel. Baimel has been featured on George Takei's Facebook page, seen on and has competed in the international San Francisco Comedy Competition. Baimel's boyish looks allow him to get away with clever wordplay about his life, his friends and dating. Showtimes are Friday and Saturday at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Snappers is located at 36657 U.S. 19 N. in Palm Harbor. For more information, visit or call 727-938-2027.

* Coconuts (St. Pete Beach) — Mike Rivera. A comedy vet with more than 25 years of experience, Rivera was recently named "America's Funniest Teacher" on ABC's The View. His fast-yet-relaxed delivery covers topics that include his life as a local teacher unburdened by the school's normal rules of decorum. Showtimes are Thursday-Saturday at 9:30 p.m. For more information, visit or call 727-360-5653.

One-nighters and Independent Shows

* Yeoman's Road Pub — Good at Bad Decisions. The Orlando-based comedy group performs at this monthly charity show. $5 suggested donation.
Showtime is Thursday at 8:30 p.m. Yeoman's Road Pub is located at 236 E. Davis Blvd., Tampa. For more information, visit or call 813-251-2748.

* Beer Bumz — Johnny B. (free show). Johnny B. was the winner of the "Tampa Bay's Got Talent" contest held this year by 102.5 The Bone. A previous winner of the "Cowhead Comedy Cruise," he's worked with the likes of Ralphie May, Lewis Black and Mitch Hedberg. Expect inappropriate race references, weight jokes and foul language presented in an in-your-face style that's both crass and clever.
Beer Bumz is located at 2245 Nursery Road, Clearwater. For more information, visit or call 727-532-1972.
