Start practicing your swing, because Topgolf will open in St. Petersburg next fall.
Topgolf Entertainment Group submitted plans for a 67,521-square-foot facility to Southwest Florida Water Management District back in April, spurring a flurry of speculation that the franchise would be opening its second location in the Bay area.
Today, Topgolf officially announced it would be breaking ground at 220 Carrillon Parkway in St. Petersburg in the coming weeks with a targeted opening date of fall 2020, according to a press release from TEG.
Topgolf is a global sports and entertainment community that uses technology to revamp the driving range concept with microchipped balls that relay to the TVs at each station. This technology allows guests to track the strength and accuracy of their swing while providing a variety of point-based games. The facilities are also known for their massive bars and restaurants which serve breakfast, brunch and bar fare to patrons working on their swing.
St. Pete is the second of two newly announced venues in Florida, the first of which is under construction in Lake Mary, outside of Orlando.
“Florida has always been important to Topgolf, as we have been connecting communities and creating moments that matter at five venues throughout the state for a number of years," said Topgolf Chief Development Officer Chris Callaway. "As we continue our bold and purposeful approach to growth, we are thrilled to extend our special blend of technology and entertainment to Lake Mary and St. Petersburg.”
In addition to bringing a dynamic, if not pricey, new activity to St. Pete, the opening of a Topgolf facility in the area will open up more than 400 full- and part-time positions throughout the next year. Projections anticipate that the facility will serve approximately 450,000 guests annually.
Until, then, get in your boozed up swings at the Tampa Topgolf located at 10690 Palm River Rd.
