Royal Pains is a show that wants to charm us with its characters. The show portrays each of them in a positive light, which is odd considering many of these people hail from the Hamptons, a place you may associate with eccentricity and pretentiousness.
Created by Andrew Lenchewski and John P. Rogers, Royal Pains follows doctor-extraordinaire Hank Lawson (played by the very likeable Mark Feuerstein). After a bad judgment call costs Hank his job at a hospital in Brooklyn, his goofy younger brother Evan (Paulo Costanzo) drags him on vacation to the Hamptons. Following a stroke of fate, the two brothers find themselves shacked up in a billionaire’s guest house — the only stipulation being that Hank must serve as a concierge doctor for his wealthy new neighbors. With Evan on board as the CFO of “HankMed” (a clever name, is it not?) and a young woman, Divya Katdare (Reshma Shetty) offering to be his medical assistant, Hank can’t turn down the offer.
