Dr. Thomas Hallock calls St. Petersburg’s Booker Creek the “heart of St. Pete’s history.” He’s not wrong — the twisty scrap of water runs under I-275, under Tropicana Field and empties into Bayboro Harbor. And, like so many things, people and communities in that area, we’ve effectively screwed it over as we marched along in the name of progress. There’s a book in the works, but until you can get that, head to this panel about Booker Creek, featuring historian Gwendolyn Reese, Rev. Jana Hall-Perkins (of the McCabe United Methodist Church, one relocated when we razed the Gas Plant District to have a stadium) and the EDGE District’s Barbara Voglewede.
