If you've ever wondered what it's like to a.) make a living as a comic illustrator and b.) be married to one and create outlandish fictional beings together, meet a comic scene power couple — Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner — at the Ringling of Museum of Art Friday evening in conjunction with Selby Gallery’s exhibition, The Great American Graphic Novel. The duo will talk about their work and provide an inside scoop. Light refreshments will be served at 6 p.m. followed by the presentation 6:30-7:30 pm in the Selby Lecture Hall, located at the rear of the Selby Gallery.
Palmiotti is a multi-award-winning writer and comic artist and the co-founder of Event Comics, Black Bull Media, Marvel Knights, and most recently Paperfilms, where he currently partners with Amanda Conner and Justin Gray. Together they have created and co-created Monolith, 21 Down, The Resistance and much more. Palmiotti’s other comics work includes Powergirl and Jonah Hex for DC Comics.
Conner began her professional art career as an illustrator for New York ad agencies. Her love of comic books and cartooning led her to the comics world where she initially found work at Archie, Marvel and Claypool Comics. Since then she has worked on a number of high-profile projects spanning a variety of genres. Her works include Vampirella, Painkiller Jane, as well as creator-owned projects such as Gatecrasher (with co-creators Palmiotti and Mark Waid) and The Pro (with co-creators Palmiotti and Garth Ennis). Conner's work for DC Comics includes Codename Knockout, Birds of Prey, Terra, Power Girl and Before Watchmen: Silk Spectra.
She, Palmiotti, and writer Justin Gray work together on the multimedia entertainment studio PaperFilms, which involves screenwriting, art production and development.
