“This is something that the courts have to resolve and the Legislature may have to resolve if it can,” said Gualtieri,

Hinkle’s decision “rests on error built upon error,” the state’s lawyers argued.

“I’m proud that today, we are able to provide funding back to these counties, so that they can really begin their recovery from this virus.”

The policies were executed amid probes into the coalition’s finances.

“Anything that a city or a county misuses these funds on … we are responsible for repaying it to the federal government,” the official said.

As of Friday, the state Division of Elections website still included links to the form the judge decided is unconstitutional.

Lawyers for the administration are also pushing back against requiring elections officials to pay for postage on mail-in ballots.

DeSantis’ administration never identified a process for how the state would determine an individual’s ability to pay outstanding financial obligations.

More than three-quarters of the 1 million Florida’s ex-felons who have completed their time have outstanding legal financial obligations.

DeSantis said the vacation-rental ban was necessary to discourage people from other states from traveling to the Sunshine State.

Meaning, convicted felons could have their voting rights restored when the case is concluded.

Bryant said he wants to vote in the fall elections, like “a regular person.”

There’s no single database where felons, lawyers or elections officials can determine whether people have outstanding court-ordered financial obligations.

About 80 percent of defendants charged with felonies in Palm Beach County are indigent.

The law requires felons to pay court-ordered “legal financial obligations,” including fees, fines and restitution, to be eligible to vote.

Santa Rosa Beach lawyer Daniel Uhlfelder filed the lawsuit against DeSantis late last month.

The footnotes created a firestorm not only within the legal community, but also among Van Laningham’s colleagues.
