The U.S. Department of Labor on Thursday reported 33,821 first-time unemployment claims in Florida during the week that ended Sept. 12.

“I think you’re going to have to really just get boots on the ground to get the full impact of what happened,” DeSantis said.

“It stinks, and like I’m not happy for how everything’s gone.”

The pandemic has put more than 1.2 million Floridians out of work.

With bars closed and restaurants limited in occupancy, beverage taxes were $8.2 million off in the July numbers.

The state received $8.238 billion through the CARES Act, of which $2.472 billion went to local governments.

“It (Florida’s process) is safe, especially for older people who don’t want to leave their homes, for people who are worried about getting sick,” Bondi said.

The pandemic, which has caused massive economic damage, has led in recent months to shrinking tax revenues.

Clothing stores, hair salons, tanning salons, gyms, movie theaters, bars and tattoo shops were among those deemed non-essential businesses.

He also quietly lifted travel restrictions on people coming to Florida from New Jersey and Connecticut.

The system was developed under former Gov. Rick Scott, who responded Wednesday by advising DeSantis to “quit blaming others.”

Isaia’s impacts are expected to be felt in South Florida, one of the hardest-hit spots for COVID-19, starting Friday night.
