Best Place to Take a Class: The Arts Center

There’s no shortage of worthy competition in this category, but St. Pete’s Arts Center remains the best game in town when it comes to indulging your artistic impulses in a hands-on kind of way. With classes in a wide array of media, from oil paint to glass to ceramics, it’s one-stop shopping for creative dabblers. Advanced classes provide challenges for experienced students, too. Intensive “master artist” workshops offer an opportunity to dig deeper into less ordinary areas like metal embossing, collage and assemblage, and pinhole photography. Members, who pay less for classes, are featured in two exhibits each year (by submission). The facilities are great, the instructors are top-notch, the tuition is reasonable — what more can you ask for?
