BEST PLACE TO FORGET THAT TROPICANA FIELD IS OUTMODED: Whitney Bank Club

The squawking about the Devil Rays needing a new stadium is going to get louder in the coming years — existing lease or no existing lease. Truth is, no amount of sprucing up can make The Trop a state-of-the-art baseball park. So while the powers that be chew over if, how and when the team will get a new home, the facility boasts one unmitigated gem: The Whitney Bank Club. Situated in the lower level, it runs along the first base line into the outfield and is covered by an overhang. Have a field day at the various food stations and bars (your ticket includes all you can eat and all the beer and soft drinks you can consume). Check out the action on the plethora of flat-screen TVs. Grab a cozy seat in one of the Club’s various bar sections. Or — walk down a short flight of stairs into a closed-off part of the stands, grab an assigned leather seat, and watch the actual game from a terrific vantage point. One of the cool aspects the Whitney Bank Club is that you don’t have to be a member to get in. You just pay a premium ticket price, or you can buy various season-ticket packages.
