BEST INDEPENDENT WINE SHOP THAT ISN’T VINTAGE WINE CELLARS: Bern’s Fine Wine and Spirits

Vintage won this so many times that we’ve retired it for a while, but there’s a worthy successor. Big hats off to Kevin Pelley, the enthusiastic wine geek responsible for transitioning the formerly lackluster Bern’s Fine Wine and Spirits into a wine mecca over the last three years. Of course, it’s not shocking that Bern’s has climbed to the top, since the namesake brand practically invented wine in the Tampa Bay area. If you’re looking for the esoteric, boutique bottles — like those written about in Creative Loafing — they’re more than likely at Bern’s Fine Wines. It may not be a bargain-hunter’s destination, but the service and high-quality selections are worth the price.
