When we started brainstorming a menu of Best of the Bay items in late spring, we threw the Tampa Bay Rays on the list because they had started the season well and looked, improbably, like a legitimately good team. Best Rays of Sunshine was the working title, but in all candor we figured it would never get used, that the Rays would revert back to their historically dreadful form by the time we actually started cranking these blurbs out. Well, we are extremely pleased to be proven wrong. The Rays myriad 2008 accomplishments have been well-documented and are too many to detail here. So well just say that the clubs success makes us smile, and following them has given (a lot of) us something to do during the dog days. We sincerely hope that the season, and our smiles, last into October.
