Best new hope for Brandon’s cultural scene: Octavio Martin

Best new hope for Brandon’s cultural scene

¡Bienvenidos to Octavio Martin! He was Primer Bailarin for five years with the Ballet Nacional de Cuba, a globally recognized dance company, but Martin and his wife, Yaima Franco, longed for the personal liberties promised by the U.S. of A. So last year they became American citizens, and on Aug. 1 Martin was named artistic director and master teacher for the Brandon Ballet. The company (like its hometown) has taken a while to reach fruition, but has steadfastly moved forward with performances and fundraisers. Be on the lookout for a season concert premiere soon. Brandon Ballet, 161 E. Bloomingdale Ave., Brandon; 813-482-4282.
