Best Welcome Addition to Ybor: Adamo Drive Mural Project

BEFORE: Once complete (three-month estimate as of this last writing), the Adamo structure will be covered in scenes of Tampa life.

Artists Michael Parker and Carl Cowden III are creating one of the largest murals in Florida on a 12,000-square-foot warehouse along Adamo Drive between downtown Tampa and Ikea. Both artists have left their mark throughout Hillsborough: Cowden painted the famous Tampa postcard mural at 1102 N. Florida Avenue (recently restored in time for the RNC), and Parker, as co-director of Community Stepping Stones, worked with teens on murals in Sulphur Springs’ Rowlett Park. The new mural will be around 35 by 350 feet and will cover the side of Fabricated Products of Tampa at Adamo and 17th Street. A huge and expensive undertaking, the mural is being made in collaboration with community and youth groups throughout all aspects of design and production as the artists strive to form “an accurate, contemporary representation of Ybor’s identity.”

Watch: Gen. David Scott and Suzanne Parks are two of the movers and shakers behind the Best Welcome Addition to Ybor, the new mural being created by artist Mike Parker, HCC students and community residents on Adamo Drive.
