Best Record Store Day Extravaganza: Daddy Kool

All of Tampa Bay's most reputable indie music retailers hosted events for Record Store Day 2012, local vinyl enthusiasts waiting in lines outside the stores and swarming in to grab limited edition treasures as soon as the doors opened. All four of the biggie indie record stores were jammed from start to finish that Saturday in April and each had its own vibe going. MicroGroove in Seminole Heights softened up 7 a.m. shoppers with free coffee and donuts and hosted in-store performances in the early afternoon, while Mojo featured bands throughout the day and offered up super special swag bags. But Daddy Kool, by far, deserves an extra special shout-out for extending the festivities into adjacent 600 Block venues — Fubar and the Local 662 — and inviting more than 30 bands to perform at what turned into a sort of mini music festival.
