Best new print reporters, Times: Anna Phillips & Peter Jamison

Best new print reporters, Times

Technically they both started at the Times in 2012, but it was during this past year that their work flourished and they made real names for themselves among people who care. Phillips is a Philly native whose last gig was writing for the education blog at the New York Times. Her takedown on St. Pete City Councilman Steve Galvin was particularly newsworthy. Jamison was in the San Francisco Bay Area before working in Pinellas, then becoming the courts reporter in Hillsborough County. Among his memorable stories this year was his account of the tragic plight of Allen Daniel Hicks Sr., who died in jail after suffering a stroke and spending approximately 36 hours without treatment.
