Best preservation of Tampa's rep as a den of depravity: Alissa Nutting’s Tampa

Best preservation of Tampa's rep as a den of depravity

There was really very little about Tampa in Tampa, but the protagonist of Nutting’s novel was inevitably compared to our own Debra LaFave, with whom the author went to high school in Valrico. Critics found the book either fascinatingly repellent or just plain repellent, but whatever its legacy as literature, Tampa has permanently reinforced the notion that the town is a hotbed of hot-to-trot teachers bent on seducing tween-aged boys. Thanks for nuttin’, Nutting.
