Best Pattern Boldness: Nathan Beard & Ya La'ford: Illuminated Science at Dunedin Fine Art Center

Best Pattern Boldness

The painters have in common a musical and somewhat mathematical predilection for rhythmic abstraction. Last winter they teamed up to build an intriguing installation at DFAC. La’ford’s artist statement said her huge, room-encompassing installation strived to reflect her need to “disseminate and communicate humanity’s unseen experiences” through interconnecting lines that are “echoes of a diverse but shared account”; Nathan Beard’s curvy shapes and patterns used in his “Exit Music” works as a metaphor for life’s transitions and for the complicated and often contradictory feelings that finality conjures.
