Best Use of Grant Money: Jack Holloway, Tampa Shakes & Brianna Larson, 4x6 Play Festival

Best Use of Grant Money

Theatre Tampa Bay’s Jeff Norton Dream Grants are meant to seed the future of local theater, and in 2015 we saw what happens when artists get $500 to help make their dreams come true: Tampa Bay gets two brand new ways to play. Jack Holloway won his 2014 grant with a proposal to produce free outdoor Shakespeare. The result: Tampa Bay Shakespeare Festival debuted at Water Works Park (with Holloway as Macbeth), drawing over 1,400 people to its inaugural season. (A second season is set for this spring.) Brianna Larson, the other 2014 recipient, used her grant to launch the first 4X6 Festival. The result: The fest, which challenged teams of local artists to create and produce new short plays in 24 hours, drew standing-room-only crowds to CL Space.
