Best new face in local theater/female

Jaxx first showed up professionally in Stageworks’ Inherit the Wind, where she played a woman caught in the awkward position of being both a minister’s daughter and the amour of a high school teacher on trial for daring to teach Darwin’s theory of evolution. Her performance was precise: she was anguished to see her beloved risking prison for a mere idea, panicked at having to provide testimony against him, and finally overwhelmed by the trial and the impossibility of her position. A few months later, Jaxx was superb as Dale, an intense and athletically gifted woman in Stageworks’ comic Five Lesbians Eating A Quiche. Expect to see more of this special talent. —Mark Leib
