Best reunion show, like, 10 minutes after the “final” show: AWKWARD AGE

Awkward Age play Fest in Gainesville, Florida on October 30, 2015

Less than two months after killing it at a raucous farewell show at New World on Jan. 31 (that included a blistering cover of The Weakerthans’ “Aside”), Victor, Matt and Eric were back at the same venue, reconstituted for a bill supporting Orlando punkers Teen Agers on March 10. It would be silly, if great Bay area bands didn’t have such a long and storied tradition of gleefully ignoring Jud Crandall’s advice in Pet Sematary about dead being better. Awkward Age’s compelling and original take on boundary-pushing pop-punk is well-loved around here and beyond, and thankfully fans didn’t have to wait for them to hem and haw for a few years before getting the band back together — and a new iteration, a five-piece, is coming to Pre-Fest in October. —Scott Harrell
