Best Deservedly Buzzy, Deservedly Busy Restaurant
Nicole Abbett

Yes, Chris Ponte got Best Chef last year from CL’s restaurant critic for this restaurant, his newest, and Best Restaurant for his flagship, Cafe Ponte. And yes, the food at On Swann is impeccable — oh, the whipped ricotta-corn dip; ah, the short rib with wild mushrooms. But I want to mention, in a restaurant that encourages walk-ins over reservations and always seems impossibly busy, the staff — from the hosts to the bartender to the personable servers — never seems overtaxed or ruffled. Instead, they make you feel like they’re happy you’re there and are chiefly interested in you having a good time. That, one suspects, is a big reason On Swann is so busy in the first place. 1501 W.
