From the outside, with its polyester frock-sporting mannequins, a passerby might easily mistake 6S for a vintage shop. Granted, though this west St. Pete boutique does offer some flamboyant clothing, the focus here is makeup. But this ain’t no Sephora, either. It’s all about costume makeup and body paint — not to mention rows of wigs in every imaginable style and hue. Whether you want to go all out for Pride or zombify yourself for Halloween, this place has you covered. Bonus: They might be the only place in town that offers custom blinging services to give your drag show gown/fairy costume a little extra oomph. Local business is good business.
Who would’ve known that we’d spend our mid-30s (and beyond) collecting buttons and pins for our lapels and guitar straps? Thanks to the comic book-inspired selection at Tampa’s Bronze Age Buttons and veteran local comics artist/musician Josh Sullivan’s wide variety of enamel pins both cute and snide, getting older (and throwing around our disposable income) never felt — or looked — so cool. —Ray Roa/Scott Harrell
