Rest in peace...to Soccer Shop’s “specialty” retail operation, which all but certainly fell victim to online storefronts and footwear companies’ tendencies (*cough* Nike) to release bazillions of colorways throughout the year while charging ridiculous prices that even South Tampa’s finest can’t always afford. Now Soccer Shop does mostly screen printing and embroidering, but there’s no more storefront, or sweet Lisa (who’s headed back to real estate). She gave you customer service with a smile-and-a-half, and you can’t get that on amazon.com. soccershoptampa.com — Ray Roa

Local business is good business.
Who would’ve known that we’d spend our mid-30s (and beyond) collecting buttons and pins for our lapels and guitar straps? Thanks to the comic book-inspired selection at Tampa’s Bronze Age Buttons and veteran local comics artist/musician Josh Sullivan’s wide variety of enamel pins both cute and snide, getting older (and throwing around our disposable income) never felt — or looked — so cool. —Ray Roa/Scott Harrell
