BEST GONNA-SPEND-TIME-WITH-MY-FAMILY-WHILE-KEEPING-MY-TOWN-SAFE

Police Officer Matt Patsch worked as a key player with the city’s emergency response team — only taking breaks to get his own family to safety, then going right back to working on pre-storm efforts to keep Indian Shores safe. Throughout the storm, he would only take short naps — at the city shelter with his wife and two daughters — but he made sure they could have meals as a family, even if they were quick meals and he would go right back to working with the Town Disaster Team and learning the finer points of FEMA’s National Response Plan. He only stopped to go back to his regular duties when the city received the A-OK to return to their building, and then it was only to get his family back home before returning to work the post-storm calls. —Cathy Salustri
