BEST SLEEP IS FOR PEOPLE WHO DON’T LIVE IN A SMALL TOWN: Keith Bodeker, Belleair

BEST SLEEP IS FOR PEOPLE WHO DON’T LIVE IN A SMALL TOWN

Small towns have fewer city employees than big cities, so when they go into emergency command, that means one person usually does what a larger city would have three or four to do. Belleair’s Construction Project Supervisor Keith Bodeker spent most of Irma awake — before, during and after — doing everything from coordinating the First Push, keeping the town hall accessible and — we are not making this up — going to a resident’s home at 11 p.m. when they asked for help. Apparently, he did it all with a smile, grabbing a few hours of sleep here and there on an air mattress in his office. The city manager wanted us to make sure Keith knew “he made our town proud, and he continues to do so every day.” Get the man a Tempurpedic! —Cathy Salustri
