Best Of 2018

There’s a lot of non-cookie-cutter, not-so-digestible music floating out in Tampa Bay, and some of the best of it is being made by folks like Elizabeth Baker and Sean Hamilton. In May, Baker released Quadrivium, her dense, 13-track compendium of meditative New Age ideas, spoken word, and electronics. Hamilton — a percussionist, composer, improviser, and audio engineer — brings his solo percussion show on tour a few times a year. You’re not always supposed to understand a piece of music on first listen, and works by these two artists end up teaching us a lot about ourselves once we take the time to really listen. —RR
