Best Use Of A 3D Printer: Doug Sutherland

Best Use Of A 3D Printer

Doug Sutherland

For a while, a 3D printer was just a geeky thing that seemed more industrial than creative. Then University of Tampa professor Doug Sutherland got his hands on some and started playing. Sutherland has since retired, but not without creating a fascinating collection of sculptures using the printers. His art history-inspired creatures made their debut at HCC Ybor’s art gallery this year in “Bosch, Bruegel and a 3D Printer.” We love how Sutherland brought the strange creatures in Bosch and Bruegel’s paintings to life through the use of new technology. We can’t wait to see how UT Art and Design students start using the 3D printers in the school’s new fab lab.
