Best farewell to a freak: Shock G

Shock G

Ybor City’s Allen Temple African Methodist Church is where family, friends and hip-hop luminaries like Tommy Boy Records founder Tom Silverman said goodbye to Shock G, the legendary rapper and Digital Underground founder who called Tampa home. In the days after his passing, collaborators like Doc P provided insight into the composer’s creative life here, while friends like hip-hop scene staple Nick Major staged tribute shows. As Reverend Glenn Dames Jr. said at Allen Temple AME, “Shock G is free.” Yes, and we’re all free to let our freak flag fly thanks to him, too.
