Best local playwright: Natalie Symons

Natalie Symons

Like all good storytellers, Symons has an ear for details. She’s a keen observer of human behavior and manages to weave together quirky dialogue to tell engaging tales. Her first novel was released this year, but her dark family comedy, “The Buffalo Kings,” was a huge hit at freeFall in 2015, adding to the acclaim for “Lark Eden” and “Naming True.” And after a residency at American Stage with a cruel 18-month pandemic delay beginning just five hours before opening night, she’s given us another endearing, eccentric Buffalo family comedy whose themes of connection and isolation resonate even more strongly now.
