Remember how Chuy's committed to donating the proceeds from some recent fundraising initiatives to a local charity? Well, during a brief ceremony Tuesday morning, the eclectic Tex-Mex chain — which brought its first Tampa Bay location to New Tampa last month — presented Healing Horses One Child at a Time with a check for $4,875.31.

Leading up to the formal launch on April 24, Chuy's New Tampa raised money for the Wesley Chapel nonprofit through social media and pre-opening events.

"We can't express how grateful we are for Chuy's support," said Healing Horses founder Beverly Levitt in a statement. "Thanks to their generosity and the support of the community, we will be able to continue our mission and help countless neglected horses and local youth."

Healing Horses provides rescued horses with a permanent home and allows them to form a mutually beneficial bond with special-needs children, as well as kids with physical or emotional disabilities and at-risk youth.

"Chuy's has always believed in giving back to the community and supporting organizations in the neighborhoods where we do business," said Helen Bowen, who owns and operates Chuy's New Tampa. "It's been a privilege to help raise money for Healing Horses One Child at a Time and we look forward to continuing to work with this wonderful group in the months and years to come."
